Equi-Restore

Equi-Restore

EQUI-RESTORE is a highly palatable pink mash that promotes rehydration, recovery and gut health.

It is a balanced supplement specially formulated for feeding on top of your horse’s current diet for additional recovery and energy support. It is suitable for feeding to a wide range of horses during periods of increased exercise, travel or illness.

Product benefits

  • Quick-soaking, highly digestible and delicious mash to supplement the diets of performance horses, travelling or horses recovering from illness

  • Supports hydration through elevated electrolyte levels and delicious flavours to encourage water intake

  • Highly palatable to encourage intake with added beetroot (a natural antioxidant) to give it it’s natural PINK colour

  • Rich source of amino acids, including Branched-Chain Amino Acids (BCAA’s) to support muscle recovery and repair and reduce post-exercise soreness

  • Helps to refuel and replenish vital glycogen stores post-exercise to speed up the recovery process

  • Anti-inflammatory support, with optimal levels of Actigen™ and Omega-3 fatty acids for optimising joint health and recovery

  • Added probiotics and a super fibre formula supports a healthy digestive system and microbiome

What's in the bag:

The inclusion of BCAA’s (in particular Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine) optimises recovery by promoting muscle health and regeneration and reducing post-exercise soreness.

We’ve included a good balance of electrolytes to help replenish electrolyte stores when they are working and sweating. Feeding it in a mash with a delicious flavour encourages your horse to drink and rehydrate both through water intake and electrolyte rebalancing.

Performance horses deplete their glycogen stores when working so we top these up with a tailored blend of carbohydrates and super fibres to replenish their reserves. The optimum time to replenish these is straight after the horse has finished its exertion.

Beetroot gives it it’s signature pink colour and acts as an antioxidant. Studies in human athletes have shown an increased ability to produce prolonged periods of effort (stamina).

Actigen not only supports digestive health by adding valuable probiotics, but combined with the Omega-3 Fatty Acids we’ve included, it helps to support joint and immune function.

Feeding rates and guide

Between 100-500g per 100kg bodyweight*

Adjust rate depending on your horse’s workload and can be split across multiple feeds.
*Rate not to exceed 600g per 100kg bodyweight.

Equi-Restore is designed to be fed as a supplement, on top of a well-balanced diet.

Add 1-part dry T&R Equi-Restore to a minimum of 2-parts water by dry weight and soak to the desired consistency.

  • Always measure dry weight of Equi-Restore prior to soaking
  • Minimum amount of water is 200ml per 100g mash ratio
  • Add extra water to encourage intake and rehydration as higher ratios of water to mash
  • Feed mash immediately once soaked

We recommend consulting with your veterinarian or nutritionist to determine an individual electrolyte balance programme tailored to your horse’s individual needs, fitness and climate.

Suggested Equi-Restore feeding strategies

training (pre-exercise)

Equi-restore can be fed to horses prior to exercise for proteins to assist with adaption and recovery, and antioxidant support for increased stamina.

Training (Post-exercise)

Offer Equi-Restore to horses within 30 mins to 1 hour of effort to restore glycogen stores and replenish hydration

Competitions (Lead-up)

Begin feeding Equi-Restore to horses 5 days prior to competition

Competitions (During Event)
  • Offer Equi-Restore to horses 30 mins to 1 hour prior to competing
  • Offer Equi-Restore to horses again within 30 mins to 1 hour after maximum effort
  • If working on and off throughout the day, offer Equi-Restore to horses as breakfast and as lunch to sustain energy
Competitions (post-event)

Continue to offer Equi-Restore to horses two days post competitions to support optimum recovery

Travel

Equi-Restore can be used for horses prior to travel as well as during extended periods of travel to help with hydration.

Illness or Stress

Equi-Restore can give hydration, recovery and anti-inflammatory support for horses recovering from illness, injuries or post-stress.

Frequently Asked questions

For normal horses, there is no need to change your current feeding plan. Equi-Restore is a fully balanced mash, therefore it can be added to your horse’s diet without disrupting your current nutrient intake. The small feeding rates mean it can be introduced gradually over a few days prior to a competition, without needing an extended introduction period.

Did you know that beetroot is a good source of highly bioactive antioxidants? Studies in human athletes have shown an increased ability to produce prolonged periods of effort (increased stamina) and reduce muscle soreness when supplemented with beetroot. You can read some of the data here

While there haven’t been studies completed in horses, beetroot extract is a concentrated source of these antioxidants and an increase in antioxidant intake can support the horse during periods of stress, like exercise and transport. It also gives Equi-Restore its signature pink colour.

The different nutrients we’ve included in Equi-Restore can provide multiple benefits when fed both before and after. For example, studies have shown that BCAA’s fed 1 hour before exercise can help with reducing fatigue and supporting recovery, while the electrolyte and glycogen components in the mash are vital for consuming soon after exercising to replenish stores and balances.

Yes, the salt and electrolyte balance in the mash should not cause a negative effect on gastric ulcers. When electrolytes are given in a mash, the electrolytes are naturally diluted through the addition of water (soaking it) and then the horse will drink and chew and through the chewing process the additional bicarbonate in the saliva will also ameliorate this effect.

That will depend on your horse’s fitness, workload and ability to sweat, as well as the environment the horse is exercising in (i.e. very hot and humid). There is a good source of electrolytes in the mash to support moderate levels of exercise, but if the horse is sweating profusely, it is advisable to add more.
