Feeding Guide
Ad lib to protected feeders. Please ensure clean and fresh water is available at all times. Consumption will vary depending on pasture, environment, breed, weight, age and sex.
Water is the single most important nutrient for laying hens.
- Water consumption is 2-3 times the daily feed intake per bird per day, depending on ambient temperature.
- Water consumption can increase to 4 times the feed intake in hot weather.
- Make sure enough water is available to all birds daily.
- Water must be potable. It should be clean, cool and fresh, otherwise birds may not drink it.
For large flocks you must supply adequate watering points for the number of birds to prevent competition:
Standard drinkers – supply 1 drinker to every 20 birds
Cup drinkers – supply 1 drinker to every 10 birds
